Studio Saturday: Oil Painting Inspired by Nick Bustamante

Join the Louisiana Art & Science Museum for the first installment of our new Studio Saturday series, taking place every third Saturday of the month. Led by artist and museum professional Beth Welch, this class begins with a guided tour of the Soupçon Gallery featuring the artwork of Nick Bustamante before the exhibition closes on July 19.

Through close observation and discussion, participants will explore color theory, visual storytelling, and the techniques Bustamante uses to create luminous, glowing effects in his paintings. Following the gallery tour, students will create their own oil painting while learning foundational painting techniques and experimenting with color relationships. No prior experience is necessary, and all supplies are included. This class is open to ages 12 and up. In addition to the workshop, the fee includes all-day admission to the museum and planetarium shows.
